Our First Day

Day one the framing is finished.
Lots of hammering today lots of sore backs. The day went very well. We cut lumber for framing then put it all together. We are back at San Matais where we stay washing off the sand and grime while waiting to eat dinner, debrief, and worship. Fellowship will follow then sleep so that we can do it all again tomorrow. Here are some shots from the day.

We Made It

We have arrive safely but we are definitely tired, since we've been up since two am. After dinner we came out from the cafeteria and saw this site.

This is a shot of the building that we stay in, and in the background is El Paso. It's about 40°. It's also quite cool in the building. We're headed down to the bunkhouse from the cafeteria for orientation and worship then a long-awaited rest.

We have arrived

Had a half hour delay in Dallas. Thankfully the flight from Dallas was not full so we had plenty of room to stretch our legs. I should have said most of us had room to stretch her legs. We arrived safely and we are now at Walmart shopping. You know, for junk food, some things we forgot, and coffee. In the next hour or so we'll be in Juarez. Hopefully with no problems. It is about 3 pm.

In the air

Heading into Dallas hopefully sooner than later. I'm convinced these flying sardine cans are not the way to get closer to God. Can't post this till we land because I'm in airplane mode.

Busy Busy Busy

Yesterday was a busy day, so much so I had little time to blog. At the site we finished the interior framing, installed all the wiring, and insulation and that was just the inside. On the outside the chicken wire was installed in preparation for the stucco. Today we installed all the drywall, the windows, and the trim. Tomorrow we will finish the wiring and put the stucco on the outside. We will then dedicate the house at noon marking the end of the build. We have purchased a new fridge and a bunk bed which we will present to the family after the dedication.

Some Google Maps

These are some Google Maps that will give you an idea where we are going.
Just click the links to view them.

http://g.co/maps/vjfyq  Look right in the middle of this area for a road called Rancho Anapra. We have built houses on both side of this road.

http://g.co/maps/dgxjd  This is a street view of Rancho Anapra.

http://g.co/maps/9h3pg  Turn the viewer to the right so you can see up the dirt road. Last year we built a house up this street pretty close to the end on the left side of the road

http://g.co/maps/j68m8  This is a church at the end of Rancho Anapra where some tools and supplies are kept.

http://g.co/maps/f7e4h  This map is of the church we will stay. Bordering streets are J M Sanchez, Emilio Campa, and Francisco R Almada

http://g.co/maps/kmcrq  This is the steel gate where we enter the retreat center

http://g.co/maps/euce7  This is some of the graffiti that some of us may be painting over if we have time.

http://g.co/maps/7x6rp  This is the front of the San Matias Church

http://g.co/maps/pkqgq  This red trimmed house is the rectory

http://g.co/maps/uzxka  This is the back of the dormitory where we sleep

http://g.co/maps/v72xv  We have gone around the block and we are back at the entrance up the hill on the left. You can also see the back of the church. It is where the cross is mount to the building.

Preparation Day

2/18/2012
Today is packing day and a day to do the many things we have left to do until the last possible moment. Our excitement is building as the day passes.

Lord we thank you for all the gifts you have given us so that we are able to do this work. Be with us this day as we prepare. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen
